How to pick

  • For soldering and brazing copper, take a trigger-start head with a flame lock. The DM-022 is where most people start.
  • For work at odd angles, under a sink or overhead, take the DM-021. Its regulator keeps the flame steady when the cylinder tips.
  • For charcoal, firewood and searing, take a grill torch. The wide flame that lights a fire is too broad for a pipe joint.

Good to know before you buy

  • No DOMINOX torch comes with a gas cylinder.
  • The brass manual heads have no igniter. Some buyers find them fussy on a full cylinder and run them at low flow.
  • Flame temperature is the hottest point of the flame. It is not the temperature your joint reaches.
