Great propane torch head

Very heavy duty construction and dependable flame ignition and control.BUT, when I first tried the torch it failed to light. I found the problem was with the spark wire was not inside a small spring in the torch head. Maybe during assembly? Once I placed the spring over the wire it worked flawlessly ever since.

Works Great

Works great for cutting up to 2" pvc pipe - much easier and cleaner than using a hacksaw. It's a sturdy tool and is holding up well for me under moderate use. It can be operated with one hand, but it's a bit tricky to learn and it helps if you have larger hands. Even so, it makes the job of cutting pvc pipe SO MUCH easier. Great purchase.

Thin bendy blades

Cuts fine, but be sure to go slow. The blades are very thin (by design) so when they're hot they bend VERY easily if you force them. Turn the heat up, go slow, let the weight of the knife do the work, and use a gentle sawing motion for best results. Also, only comes with two blades, not three as shown. Knocking one star for not coming with the third blade.

About DOMINOX

We are a tool brand with a narrow field: the hand, gas and battery tools that cut pipe, dress its ends and heat its joints, plus a cordless glue gun for small repairs.

More about DOMINOX
A welder in a red jacket holding a lit DOMINOX torch on a yellow cylinder
The DM-022 torch head, the tool most buyers know us by.

It started with a pipe cutter

DOMINOX began with one product, a ratchet cutter for PVC pipe. The people behind the name had spent years making blades and cutting tools sold under other labels. They knew what failed first: a blade that dulls, a ratchet that slips, a handle that flexes.

The first cutters under our own name fixed those three things in that order. An SK5 blade, a ratchet with a positive stop and a die-cast aluminium handle. Two of those early models are still in the range, and one of them is the cutter most buyers choose.

Then came the flame

Plumbers who bought the cutters asked for a torch. Our answer was the DM-022: a cast handle, a trigger that lights the flame and a button that holds it. It fits the propane and MAP cylinders sold in every hardware store.

It is now our best-known tool, with 2,060 ratings on the DM-022 line alone. Around it grew a family: a regulated torch for work in awkward positions, plain brass heads with no igniter to fail, and wide burners for charcoal and firewood.

How we decide what to make

We add a tool when a job in our field needs one and we can say plainly what it does. Every DOMINOX tool carries a number that matters: the largest pipe a cutter takes, the tube sizes a reamer fits, the heat a torch gives.

If your pipe is 2 inches across, a cutter rated for 1-5/8 is the wrong tool, and we would like you to know before you order. Measure first: a pipe sold as 1-1/2 inch PVC is about 1.9 inches across.

Who uses DOMINOX tools

Many of our buyers are trades: plumbers, HVAC and refrigeration techs, irrigation crews. Many others are owners fixing their own house. Both groups write reviews, and both are blunt.

We read them. The brass torch has buyers who could not keep it lit on a full cylinder. The hot knife has buyers who bent a blade by pushing too hard. Both complaints are fair. The brass head runs best at low flow, and the blade has to melt its way through, not be forced.

Where our tools stop

A torch is not safe in careless hands, and a hand cutter does not replace a saw on every pipe. The ratchet cutters are for plastic. The wheel cutters are for thin-wall metal tube. Cold PVC can crack under a blade.

We take no payment ourselves. You finish the purchase with our retail partner, who handles delivery and returns.

Questions people ask before they buy

Is the gas cylinder included with a torch?

No. Every DOMINOX torch is sold without fuel. The torch heads thread onto standard CGA600 cylinders of propane, MAP or MAPP gas.

How do I know which pipe cutter I need?

Measure the outside diameter of the pipe, not the nominal size printed on it. Then pick a cutter whose limit is above that figure. Our size finder does this for you.

Can a PVC cutter cut copper?

No. The ratchet cutters are for plastic pipe and hose. For copper, brass and aluminium tube use a wheel cutter such as the CT-650.

Why does a trigger-start torch fail to light?

The usual cause is a gas knob that is only part open. Open it fully, then pull the trigger. A few buyers also report an igniter wire that needed reseating.

Are batteries included with the 18V tools?

With the electric pipe cutters and the cordless hot knife, yes. The drain auger is sold as a bare tool and takes a Makita 18V battery.

Who handles delivery and returns?

Our retail partner does, at checkout. We answer questions about the tools themselves.
